Menopause
After reading the supplemental article about health beliefs and hormone replacement therapy, my opinion of HRT has not been clarified. It seems that the choice of whether or not to choose HRT is based upon a choice of the lesser of two evils. Without HRT women are left susceptible to osteoporosis, and with the use of HRT women are left with the possibility of developing cancer. Which is the right decision? I have come to the conclusion that the right choice differs greatly from woman to woman. A woman that has a family history of developing cancer should seriously consider their options before undergoing HRT, and vice versa for women at risk of osteoporosis.

I agree that the choice of women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is different for each woman and has to be their individual choice. My mom had to take HRT for a several years but she also had a hysterectomy at age 38. By age 46 the doctors had weaned her off the HRT and she never had hot flashes, mood swings, or any other menopause symptom.
ReplyDeleteYou know I was talking to a co-worker of mine about menopause and she told me she had been on HRT for over 30+years. See she had a hysterectomy right after her 2nd child and she said that she does not regret her decision to use HRT. She feels that it has benefit her because she had not experienced the hot flashes. I am still somewhat confused about it, if I should or shouldn't use HRT but I guess when the time comes for me I will be more informed or better yet maybe they will have even more options to eliminate or elevate menopause. I guess it just wishful thinking.
